Manchester celebrates UK Armed Forces Day
The work of servicemen and women is being celebrated at an event in Manchester's Piccadilly Gardens to mark UK Armed Forces Day.
The city centre event will see live music from the Royal Artillery Band and the chance to take a taster session with Civilian Military Fitness.
Veterans and serving personnel will also be entitled to free tram travel and rides on the Wheel of Manchester.
Celebrations are being held around the UK with the main event in Edinburgh.
Other activities taking place in Manchester include storytelling and craft activities for under fives, a display of military vehicles and football competitions.
The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Harry Lyons, said: "Armed Forces Day is a fantastic way for the city to thank everyone who has served our country and all those who continue to do so.
"There's so much happening in Piccadilly Gardens this year it is certain to be an exciting day out for everyone.
"Armed Forces Day reminds us of the gratitude we owe all servicemen and women past and present and I am proud that Manchester has chosen to pay tribute to our heroes with such a spectacular event."
